Uffda! We are no longer in the land of MN... No more Caribou or Hy Vee or MN State Fair :( Back to the land of tax on food and clothes not to mention the crazy drivers :(
We had a great vicarage year in Rochester, but now it is time to finish this seminary business so it's back down south! Here's a little photo recap of the last few weeks. You'll notice a lot of pictures of Matthias "helping" with the move... and lots of eating. This has been our life.
Sometimes it is just more fun to see what kind of mess he will make than to actually prevent it.
The week before we left MN, we took a (long) drive to Fort Wayne to celebrate the wedding of our good friend, Anna and Kevin. We served with both of them in Taiwan a couple years ago. Matthias had great fun in the hotel... with gma and gpa Kohn who came to babysit him. He was ready to check out the pool.
And he got his first Steak 'n Shake! Complete with his own free kid's meal and hat!
A family photo after the wedding.
And after the reception, Elden and Andrew (also friend from Taiwan) had to try the Burger King Bacon Sundae... oh my.
Then it was back home for one more week in Rochester... full of packing and saying good bye to our favorite places, including the fountains downtown.
Matthias stepped up and helped with the cleaning around the house! I could get used to this!
On Sunday, July 29, Elden preached and they had a reception for us between services. Matthias really enjoyed his cake.
It was sad for Matthias to say goodbye to his buddy Caleb, but this picture makes me smile because it sums up their friendship this year... Matthias watching Caleb to learn how to play and walk and run and all those milestones that we hit this year.
And the boys in matching green... doing some final packing before the men came to help load the truck.
Helping daddy carry pillows...
... and then wrestling on the pillows... really, they were working... I promise :)
Daddy wrapping up the book shelves... which Matthias thought was a great game of "chase!"
Outside the big truck!!
Heaven for both boys... driving the big truck!
We took off Sunday night and made it to Waterloo, IA for a night at hotel. Even though we didn't get there until almost 9 we had to get a swim in... and then to bed!
Perhaps the highlight of the trip... the view from our hotel window. For those who know my husband's affinity for oatmeal, he was thrilled to see the Quaker Oats factory just across the river!
Monday morning we hit the road again for the final drive... with a stop for a diaper change or two. The one pictured below was in Swedesburg, IA... a cute small town with a great Swedish museum and gift shop. We did a little Christmas ornament shopping :)
And another stop in Hannibal, MO... to Wendy's - a family stopping point for years! Matthias dipped his fries in Ketchup... then ate the ketchup with a spoon... then ate some frosty with his ketchup. Ummmm... yeah.
And finally back to the seminary! It took a couple days to settle in, but here we are. The first thing I made in the kitchen was a peach pie in honor of my grandma Hinz. Matthias thoroughly enjoyed his first experience with this Hinz favorite! The bite...
... and the reaction! Pure Joy!!!
So here we are... in the hot, hot south! 10 months and counting... Elden might even know how many days are left :)
